Admission Process

 

Eligibility Criteria for Admission to Ph.D. Programme

1. Educational Qualifications:

Master’s degree or a Professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with:

  • At least 55% marks in aggregate, or
  • Equivalent Grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or equivalent grade wherever grading system is followed).

Relaxation: 5% marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) or equivalent grade relaxation may be allowed for:

  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled and other categories as per UGC/State Government norms.
  • Candidates who obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991.
2. Exemption from Entrance Test:

Candidates who have qualified any of the following national level examinations may be exempted from the university’s Ph.D. Entrance Test:

  • UGC-NET (including JRF)
  • UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)
  • SLET/GATE/GPAT
  • Teacher Fellowship holders
  • M.Phil. Degree holders (as per university norms)
3. Admission through Entrance Test:

Candidates not exempted must qualify the university’s Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) followed by:

  • Interview/Research Proposal Presentation, focusing on:
    • Research Methodology
    • Subject knowledge
    • Research proposal viability
4. Additional Requirements (as per University norms):
  • A valid post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • No backlog in Master’s degree at the time of admission.
  • For interdisciplinary research, eligibility may depend on prior qualifications and subject relevance, as evaluated by the Research Committee.

Exemption Criteria for PET

Candidates are exempted from the entrance test if they fulfil any of the following:

  • Qualified UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)
  • SLET / SET (valid in Maharashtra)
  • GATE/GPAT (with valid score)
  • M.Phil. (as per UGC regulations)
  • Teachers with ≥5 years of full-time teaching and published research

Note: All exempted candidates must appear for the interview.

Each applicant must submit a Research Proposal to the R & D Cell, which includes:

  4. Proposed Methodology
  5. Expected Outcome
  6. Relevance to Society/Industry/National Needs

This will be evaluated during the interview process.
